The Broken Winged Goose - by Marvin D. Wilson
Gazing out from the terrace to the lakeshore, I spotted a goose lying near the edge of the water. It was not moving, with its’ right wing splayed out in an unnatural angle to the body. Further prolonged observation made it clear that the bird was incapable of flying or moving; its wing was broken. It was immobilized, and I could only imagine the pain it was enduring. I came into a bit of money about a year ago. I immediately put the bulk of it into savings and decided to go on a shopping spree with the rest of it. At last, I'd be able to walk through a store and get anything and everything I wanted. This morning a coworker entered my office, surrounded by an aura of mild excitement and confusion. She informed me that I played a character in her dream last night. In the dream, I married someone and was gifted a brand new red, luxury sedan. Whom I wed and the provider of the gift were unknown. Contradicting an expected response to such a gift, I became upset with the gift as I realized that it was glamorized with several amenities and options. I deemed the options unnecessary and wasteful, and therefore did not appreciate them...(continued)
